95th Fighter Squadron “Boneheads”
The 95th Fighter Squadron “Boneheads” forms JTF-323’s dedicated A-10C II Thunderbolt II element. The squadron specializes in Battlefield Air Interdiction (BAI) and a variety of escort missions, providing persistent strike capability and protective overwatch for friendly assets operating across the battlespace.
Operating the A-10C II, the Boneheads focus on identifying and engaging enemy forces beyond the immediate frontline, disrupting logistics, armored movements, and reinforcements before they can influence the fight. Through careful target detection, sensor employment, and precision weapons delivery, the squadron plays a key role in shaping the battlefield and reducing enemy combat effectiveness prior to major engagements.
In addition to interdiction operations, the 95th FS conducts escort missions for friendly ground units and rotary-wing elements, providing armed overwatch during vulnerable phases such as troop insertions, extractions, and resupply operations. Their ability to loiter for extended periods and deliver accurate firepower makes them particularly effective in supporting helicopter operations and transport aircraft working close to contested areas.
Looking forward, the 95th Fighter Squadron is working toward expanding its operational role through dedicated Close Air Support (CAS) training, developing procedures and coordination methods to work closely with ground forces and Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC). This will further enhance the squadron’s ability to provide precise, responsive fire support in dynamic combat environments.
The Boneheads represent the persistence and lethality of the A-10 platform capable of staying in the fight, protecting friendly forces, and delivering accurate firepower when it matters most.
